Letter-grade Marking System

Traditional Letter Based (A-F) report cards are scored on a point system based on the percentage of points they earn, out of the total points available. Any grade in your marking system table can be used for a mark. Letter-Grade report cards normally just show 1 overall mark per course but you can add 1 or 2 supplementary marks to the overall mark for every letter grade course.

Setting the Default Marking Scale

Clicking on the Schools button on the left side of the screen opens the School Form.

Choose the school for which you want to set the default marking scale and then click on the Marking System tab.

Set the marking system type to "Letter".

Define the default marking system parameters (Grade, Points, Honor, Min %, GPA Yes/No).

You can add a grade by clicking the new button on the top right of the table.

You can delete a grade by clicking the red X button on the top right of the table.

Warning: Changes to your marking system may affect the lifetime GPA calculation as cumulative GPA’s are continually being updated.

Gradebook Marking System

The default grading scale setup in the SchoolWise desktop marking system is normally used for all letter-grade gradebooks.

Teachers may change their gradebook grading scale min percent value required for a grade but a best practice would be for the whole school to agree on one default grading scale.
The Reset arrow is enabled in a gradebook if the default grading scale has been changed. Clicking the Reset arrow causes the changed value to revert back to the default grading scale.

For letter-grade report cards, teachers determine the report card mark. The Min % in your marking system table is used to calculate the average mark based on the assignment marks for a specific course but teachers don’t have to use this calculated average mark for the report card mark. For the report card mark, the calculated average mark can be used or it can be overridden by the teacher to use any letter mark in your marking system table.
